BEEF the Only Choice!

Earl C. Brookover Memorial

Triangle H Grain & Cattle Company
Steer #233 owned Triangle H Grain & Cattle Company

The Earl C. Brookover memorial will be awarded to either the Grand Champion Steer or Grand Champion Heifer. Determination of this award is a joint decision of the live and carcass judges. Each judge independently determines which of the two animals is the better in their respective show. If each judge decides that one was best in both shows, that animal shall be awarded the Earl C. Brookover Memorial. If the judges decide that one animal is best in one show, and another animal best in the other show, then the judges shall jointly discuss and evaluate the animals and agree upon which of the two animals most ideally meets the needs of the beef cattle industry. Ranking of the Grand Champions within their respective division is not a consideration in the Earl C. Brookover Memorial award procedures. The Grand Champion steer and heifer are only competing against each other for this award.

Grand Champion Heifer

Danner Feeders
#561 owned by Myron Danner

Grand Champions are determined in the steer and heifer division. To be awarded Grand Champion (GC), an animal must have placed in both the live and carcass shows. All animals placing in each show will have their placings summed (i.e. 4th place live + 5th place carcass = 9GC points). The animal with the lowest point total will be awarded Grand Champion. Ties are broken based on carcass placing (i.e. 4th place live + 5th place carcass = 9 GC points and 5th place live + 4th place carcass = 9 GC points). The animal placing 4th in carcass would be awarded Grand Champion.

The award goes to the animal, steer or heifer, exhibiting the best overall carcass characteristics. The Beef Empire index will be taken into account, but the award does not necessarily go to the animal with the highest index.
